She Took My Boat to Malaysia Without Me!

This was not the plan.

A new crew member arrived in Thailand, and normally that would mean we’re getting ready to go sailing on the new yacht. But because of my recent illness and more hospital visits, I had to stay behind in Pattaya.

So instead of me taking the boat, Olivia took over.

She joined a delivery crew and sailed my new yacht all the way from Pattaya down to Malaysia so we could clear the export from Thailand, then re-import the boat under a tourist import. It’s one of those unglamorous but necessary parts of owning a boat overseas — paperwork, borders, customs, and a whole lot of miles.

Meanwhile, I’m stuck on land trying to figure out what’s going on with my health and when I’ll be able to get back to sailing.

Not exactly the adventure I had planned… but the boat still had to move.

5:25 · Yeah. Right now we have uh uh the better moment. I check. Sorry. Sorry. Now we have uh 78%.

5:34 · I'm not sure.

5:35 · 78%.

5:36 · 78. So, so we are going on a solar power.

5:40 · Yeah. Yeah. And then uh and then when the generator start until 90% the generator stop automatic.

5:47 · Okay.

5:47 · Yeah. Top automatic. Yeah.

5:49 · Okay.

5:49 · Yeah. So now we have the speed 4.6.

5:52 · Wow.

5:53 · Yeah.

5:53 · And then a little wind. Not so much wind.

5:56 · Not so much.

5:56 · We have a six knot wind. Yeah.

5:58 · Okay.

6:00 · Down.

6:08 · Oh, now you down.

6:32 · But the words don't get it right.

6:39 · Don't forget the curry powder.

6:41 · You stupid or something.

6:43 · Oh, now I'm feeling so dumb.

7:03 · She has to hold. We got fish.

7:32 · Whoa.

7:44 · They already had lunch going, but it looked like it was going to be mahi for dinner. It was a pretty nice spot for lunch and the crew was in high spirits.

8:02 · Now in the morning alone the streets east. They were over halfway down to Malaysia. So, seems like we big problem because the um electric pump stopped working and the guys are trying to fix it. Uh I can't give any more technical details about that, but uh I can take the camera.

8:37 · One of the electric cooling pumps had stopped working, but the captain was able to get it working again. And then they caught another fish.

8:44 · I would sing.

8:47 · Now the old king's dead along with the king. One minute I held the key. Next the walls were closed.

8:58 · Yeah. Hello Captain.

9:00 · Yes.

9:00 · How is it going? We are on day three.

9:03 · Yeah, today is uh good. Uh we we fit uh seeing in the morning 3 ft but not so much wind today.

9:12 · Yeah, not so much wind. We are going very slow, right?

9:14 · Yeah, very slow. Uh right now uh less than 6 knot less than six knots.

9:20 · Our uh ETA uh Tangano about uh midday tomorrow.

9:25 · About midday tomorrow. Okay, perfect.

9:27 · And what about the pump issues that we had during the night and yesterday? All is fixed. What happened?

9:33 · A little bit uh hot on the motor. So now we fix already. Uh and that's why all the motors are open on the beds for for for more air go inside.

9:45 · Ah okay. Okay.

9:46 · That's that's why we open the uh the floor and then uh under the bed.

9:52 · Oh, good. I don't know. It's still recording.

9:55 · I haven't mastered this camera yet.

9:57 · Okay.

9:57 · Okay.

9:58 · Okay. Thank you very much.

10:00 · Thank you.

10:05 · It had been pretty calm so far with light winds, but overnight that would change.

10:21 · It was another home-cooked Thai meal and a beautiful sunset. But soon the clouds wouldn't look so pretty. Never know this word. That was when I ruled the world.

10:35 · Wow, we have a huge storm.

10:46 · Are you scared? I'm okay. You okay? I am scared. It's happening. Yeah, it's okay. Lots of water everywhere.

11:11 · All right. So, I think the rain has stopped. Um, I think we are going to survive. I hope everything absolutely every single thing is wet because all the windows were leaking. I was most worried about electronics but I hope it's kind of waterproof. Um I ate my chips. I tried to activate my inner Buddha and yeah all is good. We survived. Hey dear captain, where are we?

11:42 · We are uh near uh near the rad.

11:47 · Okay. So how how much time do we need to arrive?

11:50 · Um today we are delay maybe maybe the afternoon.

11:54 · Afternoon. So how many hours left?

11:57 · Uh the hour maybe 6 hour more 6 hours. Yeah. Okay.

12:03 · Yeah.

12:03 · And how was the trip overall last night? Very bad.

12:07 · Yeah. Very difficult, right? I was very scared.

12:11 · Test we test the boat.

12:12 · We test the boat.

12:13 · Yeah, we did. We test the boat. So we we we founding yeah I'm very glad I was with you not with someone who doesn't know too much but you experienced cafe so yeah but overall the trip was really good right very good very good very good very good all right thank you very much okay yeah okay okay boss so what's the situation now yeah today whole day is not lucky with the wave from the bow wind from the bow current from the bow So yeah, so we are we are speed about 4.9 something.

12:47 · So we are uh today we are we we left at Tangano.

12:56 · Yeah. We were supposed to arrive 10:00 a.m. Now it's uh 6:00 p.m. and we have how many hours to go?

13:02 · Uh 4 hour to go.

13:04 · 4 hour to go.

13:05 · Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. So life Yes. We are still less than uh five knot.

13:11 · Yeah. Seems like life doesn't want me to leave the boat.

13:15 · Yeah.

13:15 · Yeah. Yeah.

13:18 · Okay.

13:18 · Okay.

13:22 · Finally, the wind started cooperating and they were able to sail a little.

13:27 · Windows.

13:31 · Okay.

13:31 · So, basically, uh what happened? I wanted to leave my uh room clean. So, I decided I'm going to wash the bed sheets. So yeah, clean bed sheets and now thanks to me my genius we have no water rear on a silver plate just a puppet on a lonely train.

14:03 · So we just arrived in Malaysia. It's 2222. So, I guess it's a good sign. Um, now we will have to wait for the immigration until uh the morning. So, that's going to be my last night on the boat.

14:22 · And I guess that's it. So, thank you very much. Thank you, Bobby, for the opportunity to be on your boat. And yeah, that was the one and only episode of Sailing Without Doodles, uh, where I pirated the boat and took over and left Bobby on land. Um, I hope Bobby gets better. Um, let's send him some good energy and yeah, all the best. Bye.

14:59 · They had a successful trip down to Malaysia. The whole reason was because they had to export the boat and then reimpport it to Thailand as a tourist boat.

15:06 · Olivia got off in Malaysia to continue her journey home and the crew bought the boat back to Paya.

15:17 · All right, so I'm here on the boat this morning. Uh kind of debriefing everything. Uh overall the boat did pretty well. They had a couple small issues. Um, so the fuel filter for the generator, um, not exactly sure what's wrong with it, but the fuel filter was having issues.

15:34 · Uh, it was like a little there might be like a hairline crack in the filter or something cuz it was letting air into the filter. So then it was sucking air into the in the generator and it wasn't running. So they bypassed the filter and everything worked fine. So they're going to replace that filter. Uh, a couple other little tiny things like one of the anodess uh on the uh port side shaft is loose. Uh, so they need to getting that tightened back down. Um, and then I think that's about it. There's a couple little tiny small things, but uh, the guys from Island Spirit are already here taking notes from the captain. The captain was really good.

16:05 · Um, very knowledgeable and, uh, like you know, he was he was already on speed dial with all the guys from Island Spirit. So, like when they were walking through some of the issues there, they able to get it done. But yeah, very impressive they got it all done. I got to come back here tomorrow cuz they can't check in today, Sunday. So, they'll check in with customs and immigration, get all the paperwork done. I'll be back here for that and then I'll pay the delivery guy and then they're done. Then I got to figure out when I can take it out sailing again. Um, yeah.

16:32 · Well, Olivia, I want to say thank you so much uh for all the help. You were a great help with the dogs and everything while I was sick and all that. and then of course for uh filming while you were taking the boat to Malaysia. Uh it was great having you on board.
